What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda, a natural system of medicine, originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words Ayur (Life) and Veda (Knowledge). Which means Knowledge of life

Let’s understand the correlation between HEALTH and ‘Knowledge of life’

  • The Sanskrit word for HEALTH is Swastha (Swa means “self” and stha means “established”) which means “Established in self being”. It is a state in which the mind, soul, and senses are in perfect harmony to experience the self, wellbeing, and bliss.
  • Ayurveda is consciousness-based holistic approach. This essentially means balancing physical, mental, social, and environmental factors to support life and longevity.
  • स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्यरक्षणं, अतुरस्य विकार प्रशमनाम्चा!! – which translates to Ayurveda is for “maintaining the health of a healthy person and helping the sick person”.

Ayurveda is based on the 5 natural elements (punch mahabhoot – Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth) and 3 doshas (bio principles), Vata (Air + Space) Pitta (Fire + Water)  Kapha (Earth + Water), which govern the physiology.

Ayurveda recognizes that every individual has a unique constitution known as Prakriti, determined by the natural balance of the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. When this balance is disturbed and leads to illness or discomfort, it is referred to as Vikriti.

How does it work

The Ayurvedic approach focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of imbalance. Healing may include purification, along with personalized guidance on diet, lifestyle, environment, herbal remedies, yoga, and meditation.

An Ayurvedic practitioner, or Vaidya, may assess your pulse to understand your current doshic balance and identify potential imbalances. Based on this understanding, recommendations are tailored specifically to your Prakriti and Vikriti, making Ayurveda a truly individualized system of healing rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

What to Expect in your First Consultation

First consultation is for your wellness consultant to understand your physiology, your Prakriti and Vikriti in a very friendly and safe environment. If consultation is ‘In Person’  then your pulse analysis will be done as the first step and remaining steps are same as online consultation.

During consultation,  Vaidya  Kavita will discuss your life history, life style, food habits, sleep pattern and various other information concerning your health.

First consultation will be approx. 45-60 mins long. Subsequent consultations duration will vary based on the progress and other issues.

Elements of Ayurveda

Prakriti

Prakriti

Prakriti means one's psychosomatic constitution or mind-body type. Our prakriti is our own permanent biological blueprint, a snapshot of our combined Doshas at our first moment of existence.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle and the use of herbs.

Vikriti

Vikriti

Vikriti is synonymous with a disorder, disease, or pathological manifestation. Vikriti represents our current state of Doshas, or, in other words, a deviation from our inborn constitution.

Vata

Vata

In the physical body, Vata is the subtle energy of movement - composed of Space and Air. It governs breathing, blinking, muscle and tissue movement, pulsation of the heart, and all movements in the cytoplasm and cell membranes.

Pitta

Pitta

In the physical body, Pitta the energy of digestion and metabolism - made up of Fire and Water. It governs digestion, absorption, assimilation, nutrition, metabolism and body temperature.

Kafa

Kapha

In the physical body, Kapha the energy that forms the body’s structure - bones, muscles, tendons — and provides the “glue” that holds the cells together, formed from Earth and Water.
